Someone you met online gives you a lot of attention. There is always a reason they cannot meet or get on a real video call. Then they need money. Your feelings may be real. The pattern is one the FTC warns about.
The warning signs
- You have never met in person or had a real live video call
- They talk about love very quickly
- They say they are overseas, in the military or on an oil rig
- They ask for gift cards, crypto or a wire transfer
